Neighbors,
We are lucky to live in one of the loveliest historic neighborhoods in Tallahassee, with our own park and easy walking access to three others. We’re an old neighborhood without a mandatory homeowners’ association. What we do have however is an active voluntary neighborhood association which you may not be aware of. We hold social events such as our neighborhood picnics, annual meeting, and “Women in the Neighborhood” gatherings, In addition we keep our website up-to-date, manage a Woodland Drives Facebook page, most recently, advocate for much needed traffic calming, and do the following:
Governmental Affairs. Monitoring and participating in the work of the Leon County Commission, Tallahassee City Commission and the Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency. Making sure our concerns are heard, including the recently revamped noise ordinance and monitoring its effectiveness, new housing and commercial developments and traffic impacting our neighborhood, and how Blueprint monies are being spent.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors. We have developed a “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” program where volunteers provide services such as shopping, transportation, and minor maintenance assistance to neighbors in need. These programs have been very successful in other neighborhoods at helping people age in place.
Neighborhood Beautification. Our Neighborhood Beautification Committee is hard at work with both large and small projects. You may have noticed our work planting, installing new signage, and maintaining our common areas.
Communication and Involvement. We are working to increase communication, increase involvement in our neighborhood, ensure that residents feel safe in their homes, help neighbors through hurricane preparedness, and are busy revamping the Woodland Drives website to help accomplish many of these goals. Look for our next newsletter in your email box and at our newsletter boxes around the neighborhood.
