Tallahassee-Leon County Comprehensive Plan Update to the Land Use and Mobility Elements
City Commission Votes to Delay Transmittal of the Comp Plan on June 11, 2025
Neighbors, we have kept you informed regarding the intense effort the Board, our Community Mobilization Subcommittee, and groups of citizens have been undertaking over the last couple of months trying to slow down or even better stop the proposed Comp Plan Update amendments to change the future land use categories, that in Woodland Drives’ case, would lead to higher densities and an expansion of the permitted housing types that include duplexes, triplexes, and fourplexes.
Last night (June 11, 2025) the City Commission held a Transmittal Public Hearing for the proposed Comp Plan changes, and following extensive public comment that was approximately 90% opposed to the changes, they voted unanimously not to transmit the Comp Plan amendments, and to refile the amendments in September of 2026 pursuant to the timelines for the 2026 Comp Plan Amendment Cycle. In addition, they agreed to include a “robust” community engagement process that should provide a forum for stakeholders to build broad Community support for the Comp Plan Update to the Land Use and Mobility Elements.
This is indeed a win for our neighborhoods generally, and for our beloved Woodland Drives specifically! Nevertheless, we need to stay vigilant and engage actively in the next steps toward adopting proposed Comp Plan changes next year.
